Alicia Agnes Kessler, October 18th 1932 – January 13th 2017
Saralicia Agnes Sullivan was born in Los Angeles, Ca on October 18th 1932 to William and Helen Sullivan. She passed away on January 13th 2017 at her home in Lancaster surrounded by her loving family after a valiant 15 month battle with cancer.
Saralicia attended Nativity School and graduated in 1950 from All Girl’s Catholic High School (Now Bishop Conaty High School) in Los Angeles. Later she obtained an AA degree from Antelope Valley College. In April 1954 she met John Daniel Kessler at the Lawrence Welk show at the Aragon Ballroom in Venice Beach.
They were married June 11th 1955 in Los Angeles. Saralicia then dropped the first three letters in her name and went by Alicia. Originally living in Torrance they moved to Lancaster in 1961. Alicia was a homemaker most of her life but after her children were grown became a CNA and provided in home care to elderly patients. Alicia also volunteered for many years at Sundown Elementary School which her grandchildren attended. Alicia loved to travel on the train, especially trips to Idaho to visit her daughter and granddaughters and in 2007 took a cross country train trip to visit the upstate New York town where her father was born. She also volunteered her time at numerous organizations in the Antelope Valley.
She enjoyed gardening especially growing vegetables and flowers. Alicia was active in the Catholic Daughters and Altar Society first at Sacred Heart Church and later at Saint Serra Parish both in Lancaster.
Alicia was predeceased by her parents, older sister Barbara, and Brother Robert who was killed in action in WWII in the Pacific. She is survived by her husband of 61 ½ years John, children, Lawrence (Christy), Daniel (Blanca), Michael, (Melody), Thomas (Hala), Maria (Richard), and Kathleen. Grandchildren Tiffany, Brandon, Jaclyn, Christine, Trevor, Connor, Sebastien, Jamie, Kaitlyn, and Daniel. Also survived by nieces Sherilyn and Patricia, and nephew Richard. And by other numerous nieces and nephews. Also by longtime friend Mrs. Betty Dluzak.
The family wishes to thank Drs. Ma and Barcelona, the staff at Antelope Valley Hospital and Pro Care Hospice, for caring for Mom. Also a special thanks to Mr. Ernie Buckley who brought Holy Communion to Alicia weekly as she was unable to attend mass. We also want to thank Maria and Kathy who were their mother's main caregivers during her illness.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations to Saint Serra Parish Building Fund or Mission Bell Pre-School at Saint Serra Parish in Lancaster.
