Carmel Indranie ERNEST Obituary
Peacefully passed away on September 12, 2023. Indranie was born in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka on March 26, 1942, to the late Mr. Peter Oswald Fernando and Mrs. Florence Fernando (nee Jayawardene). She was the second of five children. She was married to Dr. Antony Cyril Ernest for 53 years and had two daughters, Marie Cheryl and Melanie Marietta.
Indranie was an athlete and scholar during her school days. She played netball and participated in track and field, as well as excelling in her academic endeavors. She obtained her medical degree from Ceylon Medical College (Peradeniya) in 1967, emigrating to the United States in 1973. In 1977, along with Dr. Cyril Ernest and their girls, she moved to Lancaster, California where she began practicing as an Internist. She worked for Sierra Medical Group as a physician up until her passing.
Indranie was a caring and dedicated physician, much loved and respected by anyone who came in contact with her, especially her patients, colleagues, and staff.
Indranie was a very kindhearted, generous individual, who made everyone she encountered feel comfortable in her presence. She had a warm smile, quiet demeanor and even temper. She was one of a kind.
Indranie is survived by her husband, Dr. Cyril Ernest, daughters Cheryl and Melanie, sisters Sujatha Arsecularatne and Rohini Loku Liyanage, and her brother Parakrama Fernando, many nieces and nephews, and other extended family members around the globe.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at St. Junipero Serra Parish (60th St. W) in Lancaster, CA starting at 9:30am PST with the rosary viewing, mass to follow at 10:00am PST and burial at Good Shepherd Cemetery (70th St. W) in Lancaster, CA at 11:30am PST. The service will also be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person.
