Charles Porter Ikerd, December 18, 1941 - March 1, 2023
Charles was a lifelong resident of Los Angeles County, growing up in the Eagle Rock section of the City of Los
Angeles. He received a B.A. in Education from Pasadena College, Pasadena, CA, as well as an M.A. in Education
from there. He was active thru-out his career with the Pasadena College Education alumni association,
EDUCap, including being on its Board, even following the school's move to San Diego, to become Point
Loma Nazarene University.
He began his elementary teaching career in 1966, in the San Gabriel Valley, for a few years, before
moving to teach in Lancaster in the early 1970s. He taught various elementary grades and later elementary
Special Education in Westside Union and Lancaster School Districts. The parents of his special education
students especially liked his caring attitude and efforts to encourage the best and potential growth of their children.
He formally retired from teaching in 2011 but continued to substitute teach part-time thru 2019, in the
Lancaster School District.
His hobbies included: photography, bowling, raising parrots, and flower arranging.
He is survived by younger brothers William and Donald, a niece and nephew, and their children.
