Our beloved Cheryl Gwynne Alius, 59, returned peacefully to our Heavenly home at sunset on Sunday, September 12, 2021, in Lancaster, California, surrounded by her husband and children. She was born on March 5, 1962 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Marvin and Sheila McCord Meacham. Cheryl met Marc while attending Brigham Young University; they became sweethearts and were married for time and all eternity in the Boise Idaho Temple on April 27, 1985.
When asked what her greatest accomplishments have been, her response was always, “my sacred role as a wife and mother.” Cheryl loved her husband Marc, and together they were avid readers, enjoyed beach days, biking, cheering for BYU athletics, serving others, traveling, adventuring with their children, and spending time with their grandchildren. Cheryl adored their six children. Her life's joy was in consistently and lovingly supporting each of them in all they did, and especially in teaching them the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Cheryl was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived her life striving to be one of His disciples by serving others selflessly. She was an extraordinary woman whose contagious smile and twinkling eyes touched every heart who crossed her path. She served diligently in many capacities, most recently in teaching an early morning religion class for high school students for the past 8 years. Cheryl was a spiritual warrior of unwavering faith, even after being diagnosed with cancer for the first time in 2013. With divine strength, she courageously battled this recurring disease and truly endured to the very end. Her legacy of love, faith, hope, charity, devotion, living life to the fullest, and finding joy in each day’s journey will always be remembered. She was a light to the world and to all who knew her.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Marc Alius; six children: Ashley (Garrett) Hanselman, Brandon (Michelle), Ari, Chiloe (Matt) Glazier, Oakley (Brad) Berrett, and Shelby; eight grandchildren: Preston, Brooks, Grant, Brooklyn, Presley, Jack, Bentley, Gracie, with #9 on the way; her brothers: Kenny (Sandee) Meacham, Ron (Talee) Meacham, Kevin Meacham, and Darryl (Tonya) Meacham. She is preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Sheila McCord Meacham and her sister Karen (Scott) Kerr.
We wish to express our sincerest gratitude to her medical team that provided exceptional care while she fearlessly and heroically fought her cancer. We also express our love to her hospice nurses who cared for her in such a loving and tender way during the last week of her mortal journey. They truly are angels of mercy. Cheryl was touched deeply by the many friends and family who offered their love and support over the years during her diagnosis. The continual outpouring of love, prayers, and kind acts touched her, and her family’s, heart.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 1pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 44330 27th St E, Lancaster, CA 93535. A private family viewing will be held prior to the service. Please follow local and church guidelines by wearing a mask. For those unable to attend in person, a Zoom link will be posted on Cheryl’s Facebook page.
