Cristina Duran

Cristina Angélica Duran - La tierra perdió una luchadora, pero el cielo se ganó un Angel. Conocida por su familia y amistades como Mama Kiki (Makiki), ella tuvo gran fe en el Señor hasta el fin.
Nació el 30 de noviembre de 1935 y creció en el Barrio Veracruz, Sonsonate, en El Salvador. Ella fue precedida en la muerte por Alejandro Morales, su complice de casi 40 años. Con su encanto saliente, su carácter afable, su sonrisa constante y su ingenioso humor, Makiki se ganó el respeto, admiración y amistad de muchos que recordarán sus anécdotas, risas y habilidades culinarias.
A la temprana edad de 26 años, Cristina perdió su vista, pero Dios la bendijo con la capacidad de mirar mas alla y penetrar los ojos de nuestras almas. Siempre fue una mujer de negocios que buscó oportunidades empresariales enfocándose principalmente en la pirotecnia durante los años 1980s. Se trasladó de El Salvador a Palmdale, California en el 2007 para disfrutar sus últimos años con su amada familia.
Sus frases preferidas eran:
1. Antes de planear una reunión, ella decía “mejor que so-sobre y no que fa-falte.”
2. Cada vez que alguien llegaba tarde, ella decía, "hay más tiempo que vida;"
3. Inmediatamente después de golpearse con algo, ella decía, "peores golpes me ha dado la vida, que hasta las caricias me ofenden;"
Cristina fue una devota esposa, madre, hija, abuela y amiga. Mama Kiki es sobrevivida por su hija, Helen Morales; hijo David y nuera Ana Luz Duran; nieta Helen y nieto en ley, Ivan Torres; nietos Alejandro David y Joshua Duran; bisnietos, Alec y Janelle Torres; sus hijos Raulito y Gilmita Duran; numerosos sobrinos, sobrinas y amistades.
Familia y amigos son bienvenidos a los servicios conmemorativos en honor a Makiki. Celebraremos la vida de Makiki en Halley Olson, el 19 de Febrero, a las 2:00 p.m.


Duran, Cristina Angelica heaven gained another Angel on February 1, 2016. Known to most as Mama Kiki (Makiki), with a strong faith in the Lord and a never ending smile. Born on November 30, 1935, and raised in Barrio Veracruz, Sonsonate, El Salvador. She was preceded in death by Alejandro Morales, her partner in crime for almost 40 years. With her outgoing charm, witty humor, easy and open nature, Makiki earned the respect, admiration, and friendship of many. She will be remembered for her shared stories, laughs, and culinary skills. At the young age of 26 Cristina lost her sight, but God gifted her the ability to penetrate into the eyes of our souls. She was a force to be reckoned with, a business woman seeking entrepreneurial opportunities, predominantly focusing in pyrotechnics during the 1980’s. She moved from El Salvador to Palmdale, CA, in 2007, to enjoy her final years with her beloved family.
Her favorite sayings were:
1. Right before party planning - “it’s best to have more than less;”
2. Whenever anyone was late - “there’s more time…than life itself;”
3. If she was hurt - “I’m used to life throwing hard punches at me, that even a caress offends me.”

She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and friend survived by her daughter, Helen Morales; son and daughter in law, David and Ana Luz Duran, grand-daughter and grand-son in law, Helen and Ivan Torres; grandsons David Alejandro and Joshua Duran, 2 great grand children: Alec and Janelle Torres; her children Raulito and Gilmita Duran, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends are welcomed to memorial services in Makiki’s honor held at February 19, 2016, at Halley Olsen at 2:00 p.m.
