Dan died March 16 at age 60, three years after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
Born Aug. 21, 1956, at St. Vincent Hospital in Los Angeles to Harold Irving and Carmel Veronica Fitzgerald, Dan grew up in Encino and attended St. Cyril’s Grade School and Crespi High School. One of five children, he is survived by twin brother Joe and siblings Tim, Mary El, and Pat.
Dan is also survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Elizabeth Fitzgerald, and their five children: Brian, Maureen, Katie, Sarah, and John.
Dan and Mary Fitzgerald left the San Fernando Valley in 1987 to make their home in Elizabeth Lake, where they lived ever since.
Dan was an avid outdoorsman with many hobbies, but first and foremost he was a fisherman — of lakes, streams, ponds and oceans. Other hobbies include cycling, motorcycles, hiking, camping, and softball. He was horseshoe champion at the annual 49er Day festival in Lake Hughes for several years.
Dan worked for Metals Technology Inc. in Northridge for more than 30 years and held various titles, including Vice President of Sales and Vice President of Operations.
Dan also read the newspaper every day.
