Edward Friend

Edward Lambert Friend passed away peacefully in Lancaster, CA on February 3, 2016. Born Feb 12, 1938 in Hobbs, New Mexico to Jerry and Alice Friend. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Elaine (McIntire) Friend, his son Kenneth Friend and daughter Deborah Monday. He graduated from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces New Mexico with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1961. After graduation, he worked on the Atlas Missile sites for General Dynamics in Roswell New Mexico. After completion of this work, he moved to Lancaster, California where he married his wife Elaine. In Southern California, he was employed by North American Aviation working on the XB-70 airplane program. After completion of this program, he worked for NASA at the NASA flight research center for 28 years as a flight test engineer working on programs such as the Space Shuttle, B52, F-14, and numerous other fighter jets programs. He retired from NASA in 1992. During this period, he was actively involved in the stock market, oil and gas programs near Roswell, NM and local real estate. Throughout his life, he actively supported his wife in many charity programs and his children’s careers. He taught his children many life lessons and gave them the tools to become the adults they are today. He had lifelong interests in Radio Control Model Airplanes, traveling the Californian coast in their motor home and family boating trips.
The family has fond memories of these times together. Ed will be in his family’s thoughts and life forever.
