Elaine Morris

Elaine Morris

A precious life came to a close on April 26, 2018, when Elaine Alberta Morris was called to her heavenly home. She was born on June 10, 1942 in Los Angeles, California to James and Eugenia Hardy, both whom have preceded her in death.

Elaine attended Willowbrook Junior High School and graduated from Jordan High School, Los Angeles, California. She met the love of her life, Sam Morris, through her friendship with Alfreda, his sister, and immediately knew that Sam was the “one” for her. This relationship was further orchestrated by Sam’s mother (Gustava) who made him escort her home after each visit. So that’s how the story began. Mother’s always know best!

Elaine Alberta Hardy and Samuel Edward Morris were united in marriage on December 10, 1961, a lasting and loving marriage of over 50 years. Three children were born to this union, Keith Edward Morris (whom preceded her in death), Brian Albert Morris, and Sipra Laronda Morris.
Elaine professed her faith in Christ at an early age, and was a member of Grant AME Church, Watts, CA. Upon her marriage to Sam, she united with St. Matthews Baptist Church, Los Angeles, CA, where she and Sam exchanged their wedding vows. She later attended Grace Chapel Church, Lancaster, CA until her passing. Elaine knew and loved the Lord.
Elaine briefly worked at Ballinger Real Estate Company and Jiffy Popcorn. She realized early on that this type of work was not her “chosen profession”. In 1971 Elaine and Sam built their home in Antelope Acres and Elaine became the “Domestic Engineer of Sam’s Little Acres”. She planned and hosted many large family holiday celebrations until her health began to fail. In addition to her 3 biological children, Elaine was mother to more than 50 foster children. This was her true calling, a gift from God, a genuine Proverbs 31 woman.
Elaine loved the outdoors, as evidenced by the many family camping vacations, and endless hours of fishing. She was a proficient “fisher woman” and passed this passion on to her children and foster children. Elaine enjoyed playing cards, scrabble, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed crafts and spent quality time assisting grandson, Malik, with his school projects. Elaine was always ready for a trip to Las Vegas and nearby casinos, and she was one lucky lady. She was an avid sports fan of football, basketball and tennis. She could always be found in the stands cheering and supporting her children, grandchild, and foster children in their many sports activities.
Elaine Alberta Morris was affectionately known as “Shorty” “Mama,” “Grandma”, “Auntie”,” Sugar Pie”, & “Laney Pie “ by all those who loved her. Elaine was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Samuel Edward Morris, her son, Keith Edward Morris, & half-brother, Willard Hardy. She leaves grieving her loss, yet cherishing wonderful memories, Brian Morris (son), Sipra Morris (daughter), Malik Morris, (grandson), Nick McNeal, (half-brother), a host of in-laws, nieces , nephews, cousins, foster children and friends .
Her role as “Domestic Engineer” of the family will forever live in our hearts.

Remembering a precious one from us has gone…
A voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant in our family
That never can be filled.
