On Sunday, March 13, 2022, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Elva T. Pereida passed away unexpectedly at the age of 86 years old.
" Abuelita" as everyone so lovingly called her was born in Santa Barbara, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was the eldest daughter of Samuel Terrazas Martinez and Leonor Arrieta de Terrazas. However, her parents moved to Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico where she grew up, attended school and fell in love with Alfredo Pereida Gomez. They were married and decided to move to Los Angeles, California to start a family. Alfredo and Elva became the parents of two beautiful children. Rosa Elva Pereida and Alfredo Pereida Jr.
Elva was always a very loving and devoted wife and mother. She became a stay-at-home mom in order to personally care for and tend to her children. Later on, when money was tight, Elva offered to get a job and help with the household expenses, yet never neglected her husband or her kids. She always came home after work, and prepare her family delicious meals. She often said that cooking for her family was something she enjoyed and did out of love, and not by obligation. She loved sitting at the table surrounded by her family. This was the highlight of her day. It was the time when everyone would mingle and talk about their day. As a devout catholic woman, she would pray every night for the needs of her family, her friends, and other acquaintances.
Elva took great pride in her personal appearance. She said she always wanted to make her family proud of her appearance, even as an elderly woman. She was a very beautiful woman. In her youth, she participated in a beauty pageant in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was running for the title of Cotton Queen. She became the first runner-up. Elva “Abuelita” enjoyed gardening, tending, and caring for her roses. She also liked traveling, learning about other cultures, and reading.
Elva is survived by her daughter, her son, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, whom she loved very much. We believe that Abuelita Elva has gone home to be with the Lord and reunite with her dear husband Alfredo Pereida, who parted 4 years earlier. No one will ever replace the love, peace, security, and comfort she gave us with each embrace nor the support and wise advice she provided. Until we meet again " Abuelita ", we will always love you, keep you in our hearts and cherish the beautiful moments we spent together. God bless you and thank you for being the best daughter, wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. In lieu of flowers, if desired family and friends may make a donation to Saint Jude Children's Hospital in L.A. CA.
