GERALD E. CALLAHAN

August 8, 1939 — June 22, 2024

Gerald (Jerry) Edward Callahan, Jr., 84, passed away Friday, June, 22, 2024 at his home in

Palmdale, CA. He had dual citizenship with Ireland and always shared his irrepressible Irish

humor. He was born August 8, 1939 in Malden, MA and grew up in Medford, MA. Jerry

graduated from Mauldin Catholic High School before relocating to Southern California. His

military service was at McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kansas where he worked in the Titan II

missile silos.


In addition to UCLA’s Anderson School of Business for an MBA, Gerald earned an MS degree in

Physics at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas where he researched NMR (Nuclear

Magnetic Resonance). He practiced life-long learning of history, science, and foreign languages.


Jerry’s hobby was genealogy. He even learned of a second cousin from the U.K. when they both

attended a genealogy class in Ireland. He loved hiking, swimming in oceans, the Bruins,

attending jazz concerts and Kings hockey games. His thirty-nine-year career in various areas at

Edwards Air Force Base included work in Electronic Warfare and in the Environmental area.


He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Marie Harris Callahan, and sons Gerald (Tony)

Callahan III, of Oakland, CA, and Paul David Callahan of Lancaster, CA. (And, his beloved dog,

Bill.) His surviving siblings are sisters Dorothy MacAdams, and Maureen Sampson and

husband, John, of Massachusetts, and brothers John Callahan and wife, Rosalind, of Wyoming,

and Matthew Callahan and wife, Yan Li, of China; as well as many nieces and nephews and their

families, and friends and acquaintances he made throughout his lifetime.


He was predeceased by his siblings David Callahan, and his wife Louise, Michael J. Callahan,

James Callahan and wife Mary Ann, and Joseph Callahan, and was a brother-in-law of the late

Jerry MacAdams. . His parents were the late Gerald and Dorothy (Brown) Callahan.


Gerald will be buried at the Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin California.
