Helen (Lou) McMillan was born in Inola Oklahoma, to Harvey Lee Hix, and Mossie Ellen (Stamper) Hix, and was one of seven children. In Lancaster California, Helen met and married her husband William Donald (Don, Mack) McMillan. While her husband served in WWII Helen worked in a sewing factory to help support her family. After WWII, Don and Helen purchased 5 acres in Quartz Hill, California where they built a chicken ranch, and raised chickens for 10 years. They then purchased 20 acres of land in Mojave California where they built a turkey ranch while raising their three children. Helen was also a florist in Lancaster for many years, co-owner of Susan’s Flowers on Ave I, and worked for her daughter at Flowers & Gifts Unique, and the Flower Basket.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Karen Cussimonio and Debra Steele, son-in-law Arnold Steele; grandchildren, Toni Rene¬¬ Longcrier, Christina Fite, Donnelle McMillan, Yvette Todd, and Derek Steele; her great-grandchildren, Michelle Austin, Matthew Chagnon, Jessica Peacock, Vanessa Paquin, Madison Cussimonio, Jennifer Reimer, Colton Todd, Courtney Todd, Abigail Steele, Brooklynn Steele, and Cali Steele, several great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, William Donald McMillan (Don), her son, William Donald McMillan, Jr. (Mack), her granddaughter Kelli Louise Cussimonio, her son-n-law Tony Cussimonio, her parents Harvey and Mossie Hix, sister Flora (Hix) Hunter, Carl Hix, Robert Hix, Harold Hix, Ray Hix, and Paul Hix.
