Jacob, age 22, passed away on June 14, 2023, at an urgent care facility in Lancaster California. Jacob was born on April 10, 2001, to parents Michael and Michelle Metcalf.
At an early age Jacob showed an extreme fascination and determination to be a fireman. At the age of 16, he joined the wildland fire explorer program, where upon completing some studying and going on endless hikes he was accepted into the wild land apprenticeship program. Through this apprenticeship program Jacob received his EMT certification, he worked on a fire engine one season, while the following season he was a crew member of a Hellitack, water drop helicopter. It was this current season though, Jacob achieved one of his longtime goals, becoming a Valyermo hotshot. Jacob will be truly missed by his fire community, this is evident in the vehicle procession following his flag draped coffin, over four freeways and under 29 vehicles and personnel saluting from the overpasses.
Jacob was the sixth child born into Michael and Michelle Metcalf’s family of 18 children. He truly embraced his role in such a large family. His family will truly miss the way Jacob could make each of them feel so special. The way he could bring a living room, of his siblings, to complete laughter with his joking nature. They remember his handsome smile, cool style of clothing and the way he would not hesitate to help anyone in need. His passing has truly left a sorrowful hole in the heart of his family. Jacob is survived by both of his parents his ten sisters and six brothers. The Metcalf family is mourning the loss of their, always loving, son and brother.
