James was born in Pensacola, Florida on April 22, 1961. After joining the US Navy in 1984 he met his wife Imelda during his very first deployment in the Philippines. He retired as a boatswain mate 1st class after serving 21 years. He enjoyed just a few months of retirement before realizing that he missed the ocean breeze and joined the Merchant Marines. He was with them for 15years before he passed away on Sept. 11,2021.
James was a family man who prioritized his wife and kids before himself. When he would be home, you could find him on the couch dozing off to his 10th nap of the day but still say he was watching TV. Other times him and Imelda would be at bingo ready to use his loud “YUUUPPP BINGO!” Voice.
His kids remember him as the type of father who could be so strict while they were growing up, but as they grew up they all had a loving relationship with him. He volunteered as a coach for his girls’ basketball team in Guam. He would try to spend time with his family while not on deployment even if it is just to the park or just running errands.
James was preceded in death by his father Vernis Gage and parent in-laws, Gregorio and Josefina Martinez. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Imelda, his two daughters Tiffany Gage and Josefina Gage (Mark), two sons James Gage and Gregory Gage. As well as his biggest joys in life, his two grandsons, Stanley Gage and Matteo Naval. He also leaves behind his mom, Claire Gage, his sister Sandra Sohngen and brothers Steve Gage,Kevin Gage, Billy Gage, and David Gage.
Thank you Dad for everything we will all have a Jack and coke for you.
