Janet Haas
A loving and caring servant of the Lord was called home to heaven on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Janet Clare Haas was born on February 19, 1935, in Fresno, CA to Alton and Harriet Self. Janet was a stranger to no one and always had a ready smile for everyone she met and made sure they were always welcome and cared for. She graduated from Fowler High School, CA, and from Fresno State College with a BA degree in 1957. She obtained her teaching credential and taught in the West Side School District in AV from 1969 thru 1976. She then obtained her associate degree in nursing from AV Junior College, became a licensed RN, and worked at Lancaster Community Hospital and AV Medical Center from 1977 to 1994. She married Douglas Haas on December 22, 1956, and God blessed them with four children, Gregory, Jeffrey, Keith, and Kenneth.
Janet was a member of Grace Lutheran Church since 1960 and served in many roles as the pianist for the Day School and church choir. She was active in LWML, singing in the choir, and playing the piano/organ for church services when needed. Janet worked with the church sewing ladies making quilts for LCMS World Relief and Human Care. As a hobby, she hosted a crochet group and met monthly with fellow retired RN's. Her joy was to serve people any way she could but was most content being a devoted wife and mother.
Survivors include her husband Douglas, her sons and wives Gregory and Marlyn (Petaluma, CA), Jeffrey and Karen (Peoria, AZ), Keith and Stephanie (Whitefish, MT) and Kenneth and Brooke (Lancaster, CA), and her brother Lee Self (Mesa, AZ). Also 10 grandchildren (one deceased) and 2 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, June 14th at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, 856 W. Newgrove Street, Lancaster, CA. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Grace Lutheran Church.
A family-only internment will take place at Joshua Memorial Park, Lancaster, CA.
