Tommie Jewel Robertson entered this world on May 29, 1954, to the union of Tommy Lee Robertson
and Elvesta Delores Robertson (Adams). She was born and raised in Bryan, Texas, where all her
friends called her Tommie Jewel like we did in the South, and as you can see, she was named after her
dad. She was the third of six children. She thrived from childhood through adulthood and was good at
everything she did. She attended Kemp High School but later became a part of the first graduating class of Bryan High School.
Tommie Jewel married James Alexander, and to them two children were born, J. La Shae Sharperson(-
Alexander) and Marques Alexander. She later moved to Los Angeles, California, where she accepted
Jesus Christ at the age of 27. She was a faithful member of Crenshaw Christian Center, under the then
leadership of Dr. Fredrick K. C. Price, for over ten years. During this time, Jewel continued her educa-
tion and became a Registered Nurse, and compassionately served the medical community of Los Angeles.
In the early 1990's she moved to Lancaster, California where she became a member of Antelope Valley
Christian Center, under the leadership of Pastor Tom Pickens. She later moved to Houston, Texas, to be
near and assist in the care of her elderly mother. There she worshipped the Lord at New Light Church,
lead by Bishop I.V. and Pastor Bridget Hilliard. It was then that she dropped Tommie, and became
known simply as Jewel. She went on to obtain her Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing degree, and served
the city of Houston with dedication for approximately fifteen years. Jewel returned to Lancaster, Califor-
nia to be near her children and grandchildren, and immediately resumed her membership at Antelope
Valley Christian Center and eventually joined the Board of Nurses. She spent the last ten years of her
career at Antelope Valley Hospital, from where she retired in 2021.
Jewel absolutely loved God and did her best to honor Him in all she did. She instilled this in her children
from their youth. Jewel was an extremely classy and fun-loving woman! She loved her family deeply and
unconditionally. She was a loyal and faithful friend to a chosen few, who also love the Lord. She loved the
outdoors; beaches, parks, biking trails, waterfalls, mountains. She spent lots of time with her friends
enjoying many adventures that almost always included traveling, from taking flights to Europe, to
cruising to multiple destinations. She took full advantage of life and truly LIVED!!! And she encour-
aged her children to do the same!!!
Jewel's destiny here on earth was fulfilled on Nov 25,2024. Her parents preceded her in transitioning,
father, Tommy Lee Robertson, and mother, Elvesta Delores Ballew. Her siblings who preceded her are
her brother, Aaron Parker Ballew, Jr., and sisters, Vera Sue Green (Adams), Edna L. Love (Adams), and Karen D. Ballow.
To cherish her memories, she leaves behind her only surviving sister, Cecil L.Ballew, her daughter, L a
Shae Sharperson, son, Marques Alexander, two grandchildren, Kiana and Nathan Sharperson, two
great grandchildren, Milan Sharperson and Ka'Tori Gordon, two nephews, Howard Earl Green Jr. and
Antwynne Ballew, three nieces, Michelle Adams-Morris, Tequila Ballew and Charity Ford, and a host
of family, friends and colleagues.
