Joan Applegate

Joan Marie Applegate passed away on December 10, 2016. She was born Joan Marie Hilbert to the parents of Michael and Dorthea Gehring Hilbert on August 18, 1928 in the small town of Keuterville, Idaho.

She was the oldest of two, having a younger brother, Ted Hilbert. Later her father remarried and she gained five half-sisters, Shirley, Judy, Donna, Bobbi and Betty Ann; and 1 half-brother, Mickey. Joan spent her childhood in Cottonwood, Idaho and left at an early age for Spokane, Washington to attend Holy Names Academy, a private all girls Catholic school. After completing school, she was married to Thomas Applegate on February 14, 1946 who preceded her in death on March 25, 2012. She had three children, Steven Applegate, wife Linda, of Lancaster, California, Judy Parris of Spokane, Washington and Michele Olivares of El Cajon, California. Also Joan had five grandchildren, Michael Applegate. Blake and Shayna Parris, Brooke and Lindsey Olivares, as well as three great grandchildren, Michael Tucker, Grace and Annabelle Applegate.

Joan was a people person and was loved by everyone. She worked in retail and was a natural at it. Later she managed the Bermuda Inn Resort for years and made many wonderful friends including celebrities such as Buddy Hackett, Sally Struthers, George Stevens and Nancy Sinatra.

Upon retiring, she and her husband became snowbirds and enjoyed their lake place at Deer Lake, Washington. Joan enjoyed her home and it became a beautiful and loving place. She was a very devoted mother and we must say we had a fairytale childhood. We are very grateful for having such amazing parents. Her family was her joy and we will miss her very deeply.
