Meister, Josephine “Jo” Margaret was born August 24, 1935, in Van Horn, Texas and was called home on June 14, 2023. Jo spent her high school years with the Incarnate Word nuns and graduated from Our Lady of the Valley School in 1952. During her high school years, Jo met her husband, Herb at an outdoor roller skating rink in El Paso, TX. Jo became Herb’s “Yellow Rose of Texas” when they married on December 15, 1953, and then made their way to the Antelope Valley in 1956.
Besides being wife, mom and Mimi, she was also a woman of many names. In her younger years, she was known as “Josie”. Then as “Mrs. Meister” as Cub Scout and 4H Leader and St. Serra CCD teacher. To the kids at Valley View Elementary School, she was “Grandma Jo” as playground and classroom aide as well as crossing guard and lunch lady. Most knew her as “Jo” and being a member of the Catholic Daughters of America (CDA), at Sacred Heart and St. Junipero Serra Parish. She also sang in the choir, was a founding member of the parish, and the quilt ministry. She worked as a displayer of Home Interiors & Gifts, was an AV Fair award winning baker and a member of the Boogie Woogie Mamas. She became “Jo Jo” to the residents and caregivers at Prestige Memory Care.
Alzheimer’s Dementia may have taken Jo’s words and mobility, but it never stopped her from smiling and always having a way of touching people’s lives. Jo always saw the good in everyone. Most important to Jo was her Catholic faith and her family. She loved Lemon bread, her snickerdoodle cookies and dancing.
Jo is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert A. Meister, son-in-law, Bret M. Carlson and brother Joe Cadenhead. She is survived by her children, Arthur G. Meister (Kathy), Ann Carlson (Bret, RIP), John Meister (Elizabeth), and Mary K. Perry (Michael) and was doting “Mimi” to 13 Grandchildren, and 19 Great-Grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Prestige Memory Care and VITAS Healthcare, who took care of her throughout her journey.
