Kenneth Powell Daubney aka “The Big D”
Born, January 28, 1931 in Olyphant Pennsylvania to immigrant parents who immediately returned back to their homeland in England, Kenneth grew up in London, England during the war and experienced a life so different then most would ever know. He shared experiences and stories that were funny and fascinating about his childhood, including stories about how care packages filled with candy and gum would drop out of American planes that he would race to find during the bombings in London! Those experiences were the foundation and the beginning of his love of the United States.
He joined the United States Air Force and gave 28 years of his life in the service of this country. He met and married his beautiful bride of 68 years in London, England and is survived by his wife, 6 children, 12 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
He was patriotic and loyal and an amazing man and father. Most of his friends knew him as “The Big D”. He was an avid runner in his younger years (1000 mile club), voracious reader, loved motorcycles, watches, football (soccer), tennis shoes, and Mustangs! He was an Arsenal football fan and didn’t hold it against his sons because they are Manchester United and Liverpool fans! A friendly family rivalry was always in play during football season! When he wasn’t busy watching motorcycle races or watching football (soccer) he was on the hunt for food and sweets from his homeland!
Over the course of 90 years he witnessed so many changes and always marveled at and was fascinated by technology even though he never owned a cell phone, computer, and didn’t have internet. That didn’t stop him though from always asking to look “in that thing” (IPad) so he could order something online!
He was fiercely protective of his family and will be missed by them all and 90 years of life was still not enough for those of us that loved him.
