Kenneth Charles Zakar was born on January 19,1943 and passed away December 5, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Doreen; sons & spouses: Joe & Brooke, Jack & Michelle, Jim & Jebren; grandchildren: Cece, Charlotte, Dominic, Hannah, Harper, Payton, Quinton, & Vince; brothers & wives: Paul & Colleen, Fred & Terry. The family and friends he left behind will cherish the memory of a man who was selfless and committed his life to the service of others.
Ken proudly served his country as a Marine, who volunteered for an extended tour in Vietnam. After his return, he received a degree in biology and he began his career as a botanist at the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens. It was there he discovered his love of teaching children through hands-on science projects. He decided to change careers and found his calling as an educator. For the next twenty-six years he passed on his passion for science and learning to a generation at multiple schools in the Antelope Valley.
Ken was Renaissance Man with a fondness for the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, backpacking, fishing, and biking. He built and painted models, with radio-controlled airplanes being his favorite. He was an expert calligrapher and avid marksman. He also had a green thumb with a natural talent of making plants grow.
Ken excelled at being a dad by supporting his children in all of their sports and other activities. He would do anything for his sons. However, of all the titles and occupations he held, he was most proud of being a Grandfather.
