Born May 15th 1921 to David Willoughby Walton and Ina May Allsup, In Havre Montana. Margaret was the eldest followed by four brothers, all of which affectionately called her " Sister ". Margaret and her family moved to Los Angeles in the 1920's... Margaret attended LAUSD from Kindergarten thru High School, graduating Summer 1939 from Roosevelt High School, she then attended Los Angeles City College, where she began to prepare herself to enter the Los Angeles County School of Nursing (USC). At that time the school had segregated dorms from the nursing students, Mom would say we work together, we train together but we cannot live together, but this did no prevent her from pursuing her desired career to become a Register Nurse, she completed her studies and graduated in 1947. Margaret was devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was short but mighty, and had a dry wicked sense of humor. She was a confidant to many, never breaking a trust.
IN 1941 Margaret met a charismatic handsome soldier, his name was Andrew Harris, he would become her husband in 1946. A marriage that would last 67 years. Their union produced one child a daughter (Carla).
Margaret was very active in civic affairs. She devoted time to supply holiday gifts to the children in Orthopedic Hospital. She was involved with the Cripple Children Society, and over twenty years with Easter Seals, she supported the Roosevelt High School Scholarship Fund, she did all this quietly without fan fare. For those who knew her, they knew she was quiet and unassuming, but always determined to do it her way. She gave 110% of herself to all that she did, Her word was her bond.
Margaret hailed from a pioneer family she was he granddaughter of Buffalo Soldier, Sgt Thomas Allsup 10th Calvary... she never tried of sharing with the family, the history via pictures or written word. Margaret was the last surviving family member born in Montana. She was blesses with 95 years of life. Margaret is predeceased by her parents, brothers, her beloved husband Andrew and great granddaughter Amara Walke.
She is survived by her daughter Carla, her granddaughter's Denise (Derick Moland) and Nichole ( Kenneth Walker ) and her great grand children, Derek Walker, C'Ara Walker, Jaydon Moland, Skylar Moland and Chloe Moland. Her sister-in-law, Gloria Walton, Jean Walton and Edwina Walton along with her cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of extended family.
