Margaret Madge Hemperly – entered this life January 28, 1929 in Kaplan, Louisiana and departed her loved ones on February 9, 2017 in Lancaster, California. She was 88 years old. Madge was the oldest of four children born to Curly Perrin and Jenneeter McEvers. She graduated from high school in Beaumont, Texas and became a legal stenographer. At the ripe old age of 22, she left Louisiana to live and work in Brawley, California to avoid a marriage arranged by her grandfather. While living in Brawley, friends suggested she meet a “cocky, red-headed” airman. She did and the rest is history. Madge married Hugh Clifton Hemperly, Jr. “Mike” on March 29, 1952 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wichita Falls, Texas. They set up their first home in an over-garage apartment. They welcomed their first child a year later. In the fall of 1953, Mike and Madge left the air force life and traveled to Palmdale, California, later moving to Lancaster where they welcomed their second child and Mike began his career in road construction. December of 1958, Madge gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl and eighteen months later, the Hemperly family moved to Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii where Mike worked on the Honolulu airport. A short two years later, they moved back to Lancaster and they started Asphalt Construction Co., Inc. Madge was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a loyal friend.
