Marion Angela Landsgaard, nee Mach, was born on January 18, 1935 to Frank R. and Mary A. Mach, nee Tupy, in Minnesota. She spoke Czechoslovakian until she began school at 4 years old, in a little one room schoolhouse.
By the age of 21 she graduated as an R.N. from St. Catherine’s College, Saint Paul, MN.
She married Arthur Raymond Landsgaard in 1956 and moved West to California on their honeymoon. She often joked that they were still “on their honeymoon.” They were married 47 years until Art’s death in 2003.
Marion and Art raised their 11 children in the Antelope Valley and she worked as an R.N. at Lancaster Community Hospital. Marion was well known as a kind, generous warm-hearted person, and she often helped homebound people as a nurse. She also served on the So. Kern Unified School board, she said, as she owed the schools for her children’s education. She volunteered as the “Nurse on Call” for many football and basketball games at RHS. She also started a Health Day, and brought doctors from the hospital to perform physicals for the athletic programs. Art and Marion owned Century 21 Avico Hometown and she handled referrals and the ads for the office. In 2011, she accepted a Rotary Award for her service to community.
Marion passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Olaf Landsgaard and Daniel Landsgaard, and both of her sisters, Delores Malecha and Helen Miller. Sadly, she also lost her granddaughter, Alyssa Sladek, in the early hours of January 1, 2025 to an automobile accident.
She is survived by her children Connie (Scott) Sladek, Cathy (Mario) Gutierrez, Carrie Landsgaard, Henry (Karen) Landsgaard, Camille (Dan) O’Connor, Eric (Debbie) Landsgaard, Ted Landsgaard, Cecilia Fisher, Peter (Kristen) Landsgaard.
She had 52 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren, with one new baby born this January 1st. She is survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and their families. She was so loving and so loved.
