Martha Delores (Ortega) Johnson
Martha was born in Oxnard, California to Abraham and Jessie Ortega on November 7, 1939 and passed away at home in Lancaster, California on June 24, 2017 at the age of 77. She has lived in the Antelope Valley for 68 years, majority of those on the Eastside. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, cousin, and friend to many. Martha attended Eastside Elementary School and Antelope Valley High School.
Martha was involved in Eastside PTA, Eastside Little League, Eastside Antelopes 4-H, and Antelope Valley High School PTSA. She was a school bus driver and trainer and was a Board Member of the Eastside Union School District (30 years). She loved to bowl and play BUNCO. She enjoyed sewing and cake decorating. She also drove field trips for Desert Christian Schools and Antelope Valley College. She coordinated and drove bus for the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. She was a 4-H leader for several projects and helped in the food booth at the Antelope Valley Fair. She judged clothing and decorated cakes and judged at other Fairs. Martha was the Chair of the Clothing Department for the Home Arts Committee at the Fair. She received the Blue Ribbon (25 years) and Gold Ribbon (50 years) Awards from the Antelope Valley Fair.
Preceded in death by her son, Larry Johnson and her grandson, Phillip Van Sambeek. Martha is survived by her loving husband and soulmate of 61 years Phillip Johnson; children: Phyllis (Ed) Van Sambeek, Wayne Johnson, Matt Johnson, Debi (Zeke) Foster; grandchildren: Aaron (Candace) Van Sambeek, Tina (Greg) Little, Brandee Knego, Missy (Dana) Gendron, Nikki Van Sambeek, Amanda Jones, Krista (Joe) Foster, Keisha Johnson, and April Foster. Great-grandchildren: Dominic, Izac, Danielle, Elizabeth, Brandon, Courtney, Joshua, Dolan, Evelyn, Arabella, Madison, Warren, Braxden, Brody, Samantha, Tabitha. Siblings: Dorothy (Joe) Starks, Abe Ortega, Paul (Susie) Ortega, James (Vicki) Johnson. Also Erica Aberle and many nieces and nephews. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
