Mary Louise “Mary Lou” Melendez, nee Gillis, 75, returned to her heavenly home on September 9, 2017 after a period illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her final days and gave her peace.
Mary Lou was born to the late John and Mary Gillis on May 24, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. She was a devout Christian and a Prayer Warrior. She worked in several career fields; including cab driver, retail sales and real estate; however, her passion was as a home maker and mother. Her love of Holiday Gatherings was an inspiration to everyone who knew her, and her words of encouragement helped many.
Mary Lou is survived by 4 children; Timothy (Mary) Brooks of Erie, Pa, Anthony (Lori) Brooks of Salt Lake City, Tammy (Frank) Lindsey of Lancaster, Ca and Misty (Chris) Wood of Ridgecrest, Ca; her brother Ronald Gillis of Newhall, Ca; 3 nephews, 1 niece and 15 grandchildren. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her husband Ignacio Melendez; her sister, Jean Rompf; her parents; and her grandson, Richard Brooks.
Viewing will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a vigil at 7:00 pm at Halley Olsen Murphy Mortuary Funerals & Cremations, 44831 Cedar Ave, Lancaster, Ca.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 am, followed by funeral procession to Good Shepard Catholic Cemetery for Committal, on September 15, 2017.
