Mary Jane Young nee Wilkinson, b. August 17, 1931 passed on September 6, 2015.
Born to William and Katherine Wilkinson in Sacramento, Mary graduated from Courtland High School, Courtland, CA, and attended Antelope Valley Community College, Lancaster.
She married David J. Young in 1951 in Reno, NV. They were stationed in Hamilton, Bermuda, England, and Edwards AFB, Vandenberg AFB. They returned to the Antelope Valley, settling in Lancaster in 1978.
She was a Girl Scout leader and leadership trainer in Tres Condados Girl Scouts, loved the ocean and hiking and took her family and troops on many camping trips, teaching them a love and respect of nature. She was renown in at least six states for her rich Christmas cookie repertoire.
Mary became an author in her fifties, penning and illustrating two self-published books of children’s prose, beloved by three generations.
Mary was preceded in death by her children Jeanne Marie and David William, and her parents. She is survived by her spouse Ret. MSGT. David J. Young, her sister Loretta Wilkinson, her daughters Therese Phelps (Dave), Mary Kay Goodwin (John), Annamarie Lee (Joel), and Cecilia Guillaume (Ken); five grandchildren Christy, David, Jarret, Kurtis, Travis; and five great-grandchildren Bryana, Kaj, Landon, Lincoln, and Cora Grace.
Memorial service for Mary will be held at the VFW Post 3000, Quartz Hill, CA, on Sunday, Sept. 13 2015, at 1:00 PM. Graveside services will be held Thursday Sept.10 2015, 2:00pm at Lompoc Cemetery Dist, Lompoc, CA.
