Merle was born March 15, 1941 in Centralia, Illinois, to Boyd and Laura Harker Quick and went home to be with the Lord July 1, 2021, in Lancaster, California. Merle was a graduate of Odin High School (Illinois) and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois. He married Rhoda Earley in 1969, and she survives.
He is also survived by three children: Stacey Munsell (Matt) of Bellevue, Illinois; Erin Martin (Doug) of Lancaster, California; and Tim Quick (Elizabeth) of Bakersfield, California; eight grandchildren: Marissa and Rebecca Munsell; Ellie, Hannah, Abby, and Noah Martin; and Jeremiah and Curtis Quick. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Necie Quick, and brother-in-law, Charles Earley (Linda) and dearly loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Doyle Quick; sister and brother-in-law, Maida and Hal Keistler; and one nephew.
His engineering career spanned over 40 years with the last 22 years of his career being at his dream job as a Walt Disney Imagineer during which time he was part of design and installation teams for Disney park attractions worldwide. Throughout his life, he ministered to others in many ways including jail ministry, interpreting in sign language for the deaf, children’s ministry with a passion for Awana clubs, bus ministry, worship media ministry, deacon ministry, and men’s Bible study groups, among others.
A celebration of life and memorial service for Merle will be held Saturday, August 7, at 3:00 p.m. at Boulevard Community Church, 603 East Lancaster Blvd., Lancaster. The service will be live-streamed on YouTube. Attendees are invited to dress in bright colors, Disney attire, etc., to celebrate Merle’s life. Memorials in his name may be given to the outreach ministries of Boulevard Community Church or to Valley Bible Church Awana ministry, 3347 West Avenue J, Lancaster, CA 93536.
