Mildred Grigsby was born on March 7, 1949 in Lufkin, Texas to Vernon and Mittie Bell
Grigsby. She was the last born of seven children.
As a baby Mildred’s parents were informed that she had Sickle Cell Anemia and would not
live beyond the age of sixteen. After reaching adulthood she was told her life expectancy was 55 years.
And during those years she was active on the counsel for the Sickle Cell Foundation. Mildred
lived to be 75 years old, living two decades beyond medical expectations proving
Jeremiah 29:11 which says: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and
not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
Mildred proudly attended Dunbar High School finishing with a diploma and a host of life-
long friends.
Mildred attended several High School Reunions with fond memories that she shared and
cherished her entire lifetime. Mildred had twinkling eyes and a beautiful smile which will be
missed and remembered by all who knew her.
