Peter “Pete” Andrew Van Splinter age 84, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2023, at home in Lancaster surrounded by his family.
Peter was born on September 15, 1938, in Paterson, New Jersey, and came to the Antelope Valley in 1961 with his wife Judy when he reported for duty at Edwards AFB. Pete was a Rocket Scientist at the “Rocket Site” at Edwards AFB for his 43-year career (USAF Officer, Air Force civilian, and contractor).
He is preceded in death by his wife Judy who passed away in 2009; his father, Pete Van Splinter; his mother, Mary, and his sister Carol.
Peter is survived by his son Roger and daughter-in-law Tammy of Lancaster, CA; son, Gregg and daughter-in-law Tiffani of Falls Church,
VA; sister-in-law Nancy O’Rourke of New Jersey; four grandchildren, Heather, Risa, Neil, and Grace; three great-grandchildren Paisley, Kinsley, and Calista.
Over the years Pete enjoyed; “Wildcatter’s” Stock Club, sailing the Channel Islands, karate, body surfing, boogie boarding, scuba diving, target shooting, working on muscle cars, being Chief Engineer/Mechanic on the “Van Splinter Racing Team”, ballroom and country dancing (Country Joy Dance Team and Fun After 40 Ballroom Dance Club), and cruising various locations around the world.
Pete was a staunch supporter of his family including all grandchildren at school, sports, queen pageants, 4H, and special events. He had an immense passion for life and was always a positive source in whatever group he was in. His family and friends will miss him more than words can say.
