It is with profound sadness that the family of Raymond Hernandez, Sr., announce his passing on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at home in Palmdale, Calif. He was 79.
Raymond, known as Ray to his family and friends, was born December 1, 1942, in Los Angeles to Ramon & Amalia (nee Murua) Hernandez.
Ray graduated from Garfield High School and lived in the Los Angeles area for most of his life. He worked in the plating industry as a Plater and Plating Supervisor.
In 1962, Ray married his first wife Bernarda Barraza and they had four children.
He relocated to the Camarillo-Oxnard area in 1988, working for Everest & Jennings where he met his wife, Elizabeth (nee Cardenas) Serrano.
Ray and Elizabeth, along with her two sons Roman and Adrian, relocated to Palmdale in 1990 where the two resided in the same home for 31 years.
He loved grilling, was an avid bowler, loved oldies music and cars. Ray was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Palmdale Moose Lodge and Palmdale Elks Lodge.
Through winning seasons and losses, Ray remained a loyal fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Lakers, the Raiders and USC Trojans football. Whether you rooted for or against his teams, he could always strike up a conversation over sports.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Hernandez, and Amalia (Hernandez) Ferris; brothers Lou Ferris and Fred Ferris; mother of his children Bernarda Hernandez and stepson Roman Serrano.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Hernandez, his children Bernice Hernandez, Sandra Hernandez, Sarah (Jerry) Calderon, Raymond Hernandez, Jr., and stepson Adrian Serrano. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren Raymond (Stephanie) Hill, Jr., Andrew and Anthony Munoz, Louie Reyes, Daniel and David Angel Herrera, Jerry Calderon, Jr., Emiliano, Natalia, Max, Isaac, and Jacob Serrano; eight great-grandchildren Raymond, Raelee, Rayder, Raeanna and Rayden Hill, Dalylah, Josiah, and Jasper Reyes; and of course, Charlie, his beloved Shih Tzu.
Ray was the oldest of 12 siblings and is also survived by brothers Robert Hernandez, Rudy Ferris, Patrick Ferris, as well as sisters Helen Flores, Virginia Parham, Angela Parham, Mary Hudspeth, JoAnne Macselwiney, and Lois Meredith and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his family, Ray will be missed by his many friends.
