Robert Colvin

Robert Melton Colvin
Born July 21st, 1980 at Bellwood General Hospital in Bellflower, California weighing 8 pounds, 4 ounces. He was born to Lucinda Jean Colvin and William Robert Colvin Jr. He was the new baby brother to Teresa. Robert was a healthy baby and grew quickly. At around the age of 10 months, Robert had started walking. He was a very healthy average toddler. Between 2 and 3 years after he was born, he became a big brother to a baby sister named Stacy. As young children Robert and his sisters spent a lot of time with their cousins. Growing up, he played baseball with his cousin Allen. He loved playing baseball. On weeknights and weekends when in the summer and off season we played hide and seek in the dark. Robert usually won since he would lay flat on the ground. He would also climb the tree and lay on the big branches where he blended in. He would randomly call out and say “Hey”. Then he would laugh while watching us all try to find him. Robert started out at a young age with a very funny sense of humor. He has the idea one summer to wash and scrub the trash cans out and fill them with water so we could stay cool while playing outside. Robert stayed funny. His personality was what made him so different. Even as a young kid in his early teen years, he was one of a kind. He had a large sense of humor (sometimes bigger than him). He had a large heart and he was always himself no matter what other people thought. In his teens, Robert became interested in pretty much anything with wheels, bikes, skateboards, ATC, dirt bikes, quads, and the like.
At some point he started looking at girls, normal teenager things. Robert found himself looking at Teresa’s best friend. You can say it didn’t seem to bother Teresa much. Like all teens, he wanted to meet other girls. So the friendship lasted a lifetime with that friend. Of course with Robert it was hard not staring friends with him. By his teenage years the family learned he had asthma and allergies to peanuts / peanut butter. We kind of liked teasing him about peanut butter since he liked it but couldn’t have it. Of course he always had something to funny to say back at us. I can’t 100% describe him. He was just 100% himself always, that’s what made him so amazing. Even on days he wasn’t feeling well, he tried to stay happy and joke. He was normally very out going and happy. He loved to listen to music. It seemed like Robert’s happy place was any and everywhere music was. He loved going camping and spending time with the family as well. He really loved the outdoors. He was always a happy, vibrant, jokester. He had a genuine love for life.
At the age of 18, Robert became father to a beautiful baby girl. To see the love and joy on his face when he held her was a look of pure love and happiness. She was his first true love. The year of 1998 was the start of a new chapter, the beginning of his adult life. A little time after Robert went on a new journey in life. He was on a journey to find himself again. So from about 1999 until 2017, he was a little bit of here and there just being himself.
On December 31st, 2006, Robert became a father to a son, Damien. Unaware at the time but he had then found his best friend. No matter what was going on life for Robert good or not so good he always knew things would be okay. He knew that he could always talk to Damien and that would help. Through everything, Robert stayed positive. For all of us that knew him, we knew his positive vibes helped us all. Even as a young man going through everything to find himself, he still managed to always make new friends and impact each of them in his own way.
He always loved hard. During his search, Robert found that he loved tattooing. So, going from place to place he was doing tattoos and it became a passion. It was what he loved doing. Next to being with his kids, tattooing became his thing. In 2012, Robert became the father of a new daughter named Riley. Another beautiful baby girl. He was a proud daddy. With life always changing, so was Robert. He loved staying on the move. His personality never changed; he still had a passion for tattooing. He followed his passion and moved around all the time, meeting new people, making new friends, and showing off his work. Robert also tattooed on his family members. As Robert was gone his “trips”, he still followed his passion and tattooed. No matter what was going on in his life, Robert always had a great sense of humor, a huge heart, and crazy mad jokes to share. In 2014, Robert became the father of a beautiful
baby girl named Lilith, A beautiful little girl. Robert’s children are all very beautiful with eyes that stand out. Destiny looks like a good cross between her mom and Robert. She gets her eyes from Robert. Damien is Robert’s mini him. Riley and Lilly got the curly hair and the eyes of Robert. They are both beautiful girl versions of Robert. They are Lilly has his smile. All of the time that Robert spent with his children was his greatest times. Robert faced some hard times that were heading his way.
He was on one of his trips he was hit in the face with a peppered bean bag causing some vision impairment. He had corrective surgery. There was so much damage that he went blind in one eye and the damage was so great that he faces going blind in both eyes. A struggle Robert then had, was trying to see if glasses would work to help him so he could try to see. Unfortunately, there was nothing to do to help. He went blind, only seeing shadows from the corner of his eye. Even after going blind, Robert still laughed and smiled. Knowing he was blind, people tried helping him all the time. His saying was “I’m blind, not retarded.” He still was able to do a lot by himself because he refused to fully depend on others. He said he could use help with making food and putting his clothes in to be washed. He was able to choose his outfit for the day since all his shirts were either red, black, or white. He has a couple of long sleeve shirts. He knows what he had.
Robert had his struggles as well, He did go through emotions of feeling like less of a man because he had to rely on others. Those feelings never lasted long, he would start joking around or listening to music, It also bothered him that he could no longer tattoo. If you asked him, he would say “I can still tattoo on you I just can’t guarantee it will look good.”, always laughing and joking about it. Even with all the changes, he was still able to sit with you to watch a movie. If you watched a movie he had seen before he could tell you what was going on with no problem. Since he lived in Rosamond and Lancaster, he could tell you exactly where to go and know exactly what was around. So even with the struggle of going blind he used his other senses and made the best of a hard situation, His kids could always FaceTime him so they could see him. It always brightened his day to talk to his kids. After going blind, Robert’s thing was music. He loved singing along. He could sing well. He loved sitting outside on the nice days with no shirt. He would enjoy the sun on his skin and a cigarette in hand singing along to the music playing on his Bluetooth, He was so peaceful and happy. No matter how happy he was, nothing ever made him happier than his kids. In closing, everyone has said that he was one of a kind. He loved deeply, had a deep passion for life and his family, and making others happen. He loved to help others and always gave to those in need as long as he had it to give, he did.
On May 29th, 2020, Robert went home to be with our loved ones in Heaven, leaving a huge impact on so many. I would now like to share some feelings that other loved ones had for Robert and how they said Robert impacted their lives in a few words. Robert always gave his babies all his love, he always had a loving relationship with his babies. When he was with his kids, that time was always full of love, laughter, and fun. Robert was charming, funny, had a sense of humor that was goofy and fun. He always treated the women in his life with respect, kindness, and would protect and defend them and his family at all cost. His unique sense of humor and natural comedic personality made him a joy to be around.

Robert was the funniest person ever. He helped everyone he could, including me. When he was blind, he helped pack and move me. Tattooing and tattoos were a big part of him as well. He loved deeply, was a gentle, thoughtful, and amazing man. He loved to sing and had an infectious love. It was hard not to love his laugh. His babies were always so happy to spend time with him and he was the happiest with them.

His biggest accomplishments in life were his children, Destiny, Damien, Riley, and Lillith.

May he now rest in peace and know how deeply loved and missed he will be.
