STANLEY DAUGHERTY

Stanley Eugene Daugherty was born in North Platte, Nebraska on January 20, 1940. He was baptized into Christ as a child and confirmed in his Christian faith on May 24, 1953 at First Lutheran Church in North Platte, NE.

It was in his hometown that Stan discovered his lifelong love of language--teaching himself Spanish in the local library. He also studied and spoke other languages including French and German. He attended North Platte High School and graduated with honors in 1958. Stan studied Spanish at Midland (Lutheran) College in Fremont, NE, where he met his wife Jean Fodnes. During his junior year, Stan studied abroad at Interamerican University in San German, Puerto Rico.

After graduating from Midland College in 1962, Stan went to Officer Candidate School and became a captain in the U.S. Air Force, serving as an air traffic controller in Germany and Thailand during the Vietnam War. After serving for five years (1962-1968) Stan and his family moved to New Mexico where he received a fellowship for graduate studies at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. In 1974, Stan took a position as a professor of language at Concordia Teachers College in Seward, NE. In 1984, the family moved to California where Stan taught at Los Angeles Lutheran High School for a short time. Stan finished his career working for the City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. However, in retirement he took a part-time job at the Lancaster, CA public library for several years.

Stan was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lancaster, CA, where he volunteered to teach language classes to members of the congregation. Throughout his life, Stan faithfully attended church and was nurtured in his Christian faith. He trusted in the promise of forgiveness and life in Christ and his family clings to that promise today.

On November 23, 2022, Stanley Eugene Daugherty passed away from a brain aneurysm.

Stan was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian (Merle) Vierson, father, Robert Dougherty, sister Marilyn and her husband Jim Wolle, niece, Jolynn Oskey, and son-in-law, Wade Young. Stan is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Jean Daugherty, daughter Krista Young, and sons Kevin (Elizabeth) Daugherty and Shaun (Beth) Daugherty. He was a proud grandfather of 10: Kalen (Isaac), Ashley (Chris), Kevin, Jordyn, Jonas, Micah, Olivia, Silas, Zachary, Amos, and a great-grandfather to Leo. Stan also leaves behind a nephew, Mike Goad and four great nieces.
