Born May 29th, 1922 in Elkhart, IN, passed away Nov 16th, 2017 in Lancaster, CA.
Second of seven children to Robert M. and Elva C.(Smeltzer) Black. Mom was raised in Elkhart IN., then moved to CA with her three boys, Paddy, Rick and Carl while husband Martin “Pat” was serving in the Navy during WWII. After the war ended Vera and Pat added three more boys, Mike, Bob and David. They lived in So.Cal. for many years, then the Central Valley. After dad’s passing in 1992 she lived in Lake Havasu AZ for many years then in Lancaster CA for the last thirteen years. She was very active for many years in the Eagles Auxiliary and was retired from Continental Airlines. Her passion in life was always her family and their happiness and success. Her main hobbies were crocheting, knitting and quilting (making so many outfits for her Grand, GreatGrand and GreatGreatGrand Children that there were extra outfits given to many local needy families. Her other hobby was poker with the boys at the Mayflower Gardens Senior Retirement Center.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband Martin Patrick, sons Paddy, Carl and Mike and daughter-in-law Genie. She is survived by sons Rick (Joann) Pleasanton, CA, Bob (Bev) Lake Havasu, AZ and David (Susi) Palmdale, CA, fifteen Grand, twenty three GreatGrand and eight GreatGreatGrand children.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Junipero Serra Parrish, 42121 60th St. West, Lancaster, CA 93536 on Saturday Dec 16th, 12:00 Noon. A reception to follow at the home of Don and Annette Boroff.
