Warren Oshel

Oshel, Warren Wesley June 1, 1922 – January 11, 2018

Warren Wesley Oshel was born in Gardner, Kansas on June 1, 1922 to Omar Ivo Oshel and Edna Maree Dana. He had two brothers Dale Dana Oshel and Loren Leslie Oshel. He passed away peacefully on January 11, 2018 in Lancaster, California. He was 95.

Warren was married to Georgia Geraldine (Gerry) Rowe Oshel (deceased) for 57 years. He is survived by his current wife Edna May Noles Oshel of 15 years.

He has four sons Thomas Warren Oshel (wife Donna), Jon Alan Oshel (wife Ginny), Paul Michael Oshel (deceased) (wife Katherine), Brian Patrick Oshel and a step-daughter Karen Noles Mahoney (husband Jimmy).

Warren has 9 grandchildren, Erick Oshel, Greg Oshel, Jill Brouillard, Marla Friedler, Suzanne Ryerson, Sarah Oshel, Carly Oshel, Brian Mahoney and Jamie Donahue. He has 13 great-grandchildren.

He served his country in the US Army during WWII as a Radio technician 4th grade in the 156th Armored Signal Company. He saw action in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. His unit was attached to General Patton’s 6th Armored Division.

After graduating from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, and discharging from the Army; Warren worked in Denver, Colorado at the Bureau of Reclamation until 1956 when he moved to China Lake, California and started work at the Naval Weapons Center, China Lake (formerly NOTS). He was an electrical engineer and worked at the Sky Top Ballistic Missile test facility collecting, reducing and analyzing data. He retired in the 1980s working as a consult.

Warren was active in the United Methodist Church both in Ridgecrest and in Lancaster. He served as Lay leader, Pastor Parish relations, and on the building committee to name but a few of his endeavors.

As a community member Warren served as a member of the China Lake School Board.

Warren was a loving husband as well as an excellent father and role model. He guided all four boys to Eagle Scout and showed them how to be good fathers for their own children. He was a well-loved and respected step-father. He led by example with strength, respect and a smile.

Warren liked the outdoors, enjoying picnics, camping, canoeing and back packing. In his later years he enjoyed gardening and the computer. He liked to entertain and play bridge. He enjoyed traveling and made several trips around the United States and to Canada, Australia and Europe.
